Fall Fishing Just Around the Corner

Yesterday in Colorado Springs, the city was pounded with up to 2 feet of hail in some areas.  The nights are cooling down and daytime temps make it once again bearable to be outside.  That means it is time to start thinking about our fall Colorado Fly Fishing Trips and the annual migration of brown trout.  In the coming weeks I expect fishing to continue to be very good....as long as we keep decent water levels.  I am sure that everyone is getting antsy as most do every year.  Let me be clear, we are still a few weeks, if not a month away from seeing any type of measureable numbers moving into the river, or at least showing that they moved into the river.  It is also time to start thinking about booking days during the first couple weeks of October and try to target some of these lake fish.  If you are going to book a trip, whether with myself or with others, do your research.  Find a guide that will not put you on paired up spawning fish, or who will do the right thing when you foul hook a fish.  There are plenty of good guides out there that will try to teach you the right way to target these fish.  If you are interested in booking a trip, please email me for info at tere5643@gmail.com!  Below are some pictures from past fall fishing trips.

South Platte River Fly Fishing Report

Well here we are approaching the end of August.  This year has absolutely flown by.  This has by far been my busiest year working the water of the South Platte River.  What a great season it has been running Colorado Fly Fishing Trips, with some great fish, outstanding hatches, and so many awesome clients.  The Dream Stream is still fishing very well, with some great fish being caught.  Tricos continue to dominate the morning hours and we are having great success on both dries and nymphs.  The mid day and afternoon hours have been a little slower as water temperatures continue to be the issue after 12 pm.  That being said, fishing can still be good, you will just have to work a little harder to find those big fish.  It is never to early to start thinking about the fall.  We are all hopeful that higher water levels leading into fall will lead to some great fishing when the big browns do start to show themselves.  If you would like to learn how we target these large lake run fish without resorting to fishing to fish on spawning beds, please email me at tere5643@gmail.com.  Below are some photos from recent trips.

Summer 2016 Fly Fishing on the South Platte

Well here we are.  It is just about the middle of July and I have been on the water every day since the middle of May.  Overall, fishing on the South Platte has been good to great.  There have certainly been slow days mixed in, but for the most part we have been having some great trips.  The water in South Park fluctuated between 70 and 50 cfs for a while and finally was jumped up to 150 or so.  While this was better than 70 or 50, I personally would like to see flows in the 200-300 range to ensure the health of our fishery.  Right now early starts and early finishes are good as the water temperatures are getting quite warm in the afternoon. Flows have also come back down from 150 and are now right around 100 cfs.  Tricos, Caddis, some PMD's, Yellow Sallies, and when the now rare afternoon showers roll in, BWOs will come off as well.  I have the 21st and 26 available in July, and am a little more open in August, September, and October.  Feel free to give me a call if you would like information about booking a guided fly fishing trip on the South Platte River here in Colorado.  Below are some pictures from recent trips.

Welcome to Summer 2016

Well just like that summer decided to show up this year.   After a fairly cold and wet May, summer has shown up in June ready to party. The fish are certainly enjoying the warmer weather that summer is bringing.  Both the Dream Stream and Deckers sections of the South Platte are fishing great.  The section in South Park is good most days, but the fishing at Deckers has been absolutely lights out.  We are picking up fish at both locations with nymphs and dries.  There are still some BWOs to be found, but the abundance of PMDs, Caddis, Yellow Sallies, and Golden Stones (particularly at Deckers) has kept fish feeding heavily. Today we actually had one of the larger rainbows I have ever seen at Deckers find its way into the net.  Yes it was most likely a Wigwam fish that floated down to Trumbull, but hey, 24 inches of rainbow on public water was a cool thing to see.  June is fully booked, I have the 30th available if you would like to schedule a guided trip.  July is filling up fast so be sure to get your trip on the books for some great summer Colorado fly fishing here in Colorado!  Feel free to email me at tere5643@gmail.com or visit www.addictiveanglingcolorado.com.  Below are some pictures from recent trips!

Spring Colorado Fly Fishing 2016

It has been a couple of months since I last reported on what was happening on our local waters.  Well the spring has been a good one, despite the lower than normal flows.  Along with getting the guide season rolling with some outstanding days on both the Deckers stretch of the South Platte and on all the waters available out in South Park, I have been a bit of a traveler.  Towards the end of March, my friends and I conducted our annual spring trip in Wyoming on the North Platte drainage.  Many fish were caught, and even more beers were consumed.  Another year with good friends that produced even more lifelong memories.  The following weekend, I ended up in Utah fishing the various Tailwaters the state has to offer for work on a large project I am working on.  The fishing in Utah was fantastic.  Plenty of large fish came to the net and we were lucky enough to get some great images.  But back to the matters at hand locally.  The South Platte has been fishing very good despite the low water.  Fish are eating hard on various BWO and midge nymphs.  I have been doing a lot of my trips on Spinney Reservoir recently.  Opening weekend was nothing less than amazing.  Lots of big fish to the net and happy clients left day after day with sore forearms and memories of drag ripping runs.  As the days become longer and the water continues to warm conditions will only improve on our local rivers.  If you are interested in learning how to target these fish or a Colorado Fly Fishing Trip during the spring and early summer give me a call or shoot me an email at tere5643@gmail.com.  Be sure to visit the website www.addictiveanglingcolorado.com Below are some pictures from recent spring guide trips.

Spring on the South Platte Drainage

Well here we are, another guide season is quickly approaching and the weather for February is unbelievable.  We are still a couple weeks away from seeing any substantial migration out at the Dream Stream.  There are a couple of nice fish here and there, but they seem to be there one day and gone the next.  Crowds have also been heavy.  That being said, the entirety of the river has good number of great hard fighting fish! Things should only continue to improve as we move closer to March and as spring comes into full swing.  If you are interested in booking a Colorado Fly Fishing Trip please email me at tere5643@gmail.com, call me at 719-494-6480, or visit our main website: www.addictiveanglingcolorado.com  Below are some pictures from past years' spring guide trips.

Thank You for a Great Season!!

I would first like to say thank you to everyone that I had the pleasure of fishing with this year.  It was certainly an interesting year with high water but another great season is in the books.  The fall was a little bit of a let down on the Dream Stream.  The low water and very high crowds made fishing tough.  That being said, we were able to scrounge out a few big fish and have some great days.  With winter coming, I will be doing a fair amount of traveling to get work done for a rather large project that I signed on for. Traveling around the western United States to fish some of the finest waters in the country is sure to be a real treat.  For starters, I will be in Wyoming next week, California next weekend, and Pyramid Lake that following week.  Looking forward to traveling and meeting up with some old friends.  I want to thank everyone one more time for a great year and I look forward to fishing with many of you next season! Below are some highlights from this past year.  Click here for Colorado Fly Fishing Trips!
